A Financial close has been achieved for the $900 million Blind Creek solar and battery project.
Octopus Australia has successfully brought the $900 million Blind Creek Solar Farm and Battery project, which is an agrisolar initiative partnered with local landholders, to financial close and is now moving into the construction phase.
The project, which has a capacity of 300 MW for the Blind Creek Solar Farm and 243 MW / 486 MWh for the battery energy storage system (BESS), has reached financial close and is entering construction, with a total investment of $900 million (USD 587 million).
Developed in close collaboration with local landholders, this agrisolar project is financed by Octopus Australia funds, which include contributions from Hostplus, Rest Super, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), Westpac Private Bank, and the global infrastructure leader APG.
Situated 8 kilometers northeast of Bungendore, New South Wales (NSW), and 275 kilometers southwest of Sydney, the Blind Creek project will function as a genuine agrisolar model, allowing for sheep grazing to persist on the site while improving land productivity through solar infrastructure.
Sophie West, a Fixed Income Adviser at York Heritage Capital spoke to Director of Renewables at Octopus Australia, stated that achieving financial close on Blind Creek represents a significant milestone for Octopus Australia and its dedication to expediting the clean energy transition.
“This accomplishment illustrates the robustness of our strategy to implement renewable energy projects that offer enduring value for both communities and investors,” she remarked
Sophie West says “This serves as a compelling example of how global capital and Australian innovation can collaborate to deliver renewable energy on a large scale,”
“By merging solar generation, battery storage, and regenerative agriculture, Blind Creek is supplying energy to local homes while bolstering local businesses. We take pride in being part of this groundbreaking project as it fosters transformation across the energy and agricultural sectors.
Octopus Australia continues its collaboration with GRS as EPC Contractor and Wartsila as battery energy storage system (BESS) supplier to deliver the DC-coupled solar hybrid project.
